So you are thinking about a newborn photoshoot in Lancashire for your baby…
But choosing a photographer for this once-in-a-lifetime moment is not just about finding someone technically trained.
You need to find someone you can trust to hold your baby, someone with the right style.
Someone with the right experience, able to “read” babies and adapt the workflow to their needs.
After all, this is a big deal: you can’t take your little one back in time to capture better photos!
So how about making it easier for you to make this choice by… going with me behind the scenes of a newborn session?
Ready? Let’s go!
NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT LANCASHIRE: WHEN & WHERE?
A newborn photography session generally takes place when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old. This is because your baby’s feeding schedule is more likely to be established and conditions such as baby acne and colic are less likely to be present.
On the day of your photoshoot, you can expect to be at the studio for up to 4 hours.
Now you are probably thinking “4 hours! Why does it take so long?”
The reason for this is that from the moment you arrive to the very end of your photography session your baby will take the lead.
We will follow your little one’s cues, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing and soothing during your session.
As a professional newborn photographer, I am trained to recognise different stages of sleep and assess your baby’s safety throughout.
And beside all the training.. I’m also a Mummy myself, so you can be rest assured that your baby is in safe hands.
Training and experience as a mum are also what helped me design my studio: since your newborn session is probably going to be one of the first outings with your new little bundle, I organised my studio to replicate the warm, safe, and comfortable “nest” that you have created for you and your baby at home: from the perfect room temperature, to the reassuring sound of white noise.
All sessions are held at my studio, based in Haslingden, Rossendale.
PROPS & COLOURS
If you’ve had a chance to look at my FB page (if not… see image below!) you have probably noticed two different “styles”: in some images, the baby is positioned inside a prop and in other images the baby is laid down on a blanket.
These are what we call “setups” which include a choice of coloured fabric and adorable accessories to match.
For your sessions you can expect to see around 4 different setups, which ensures that you have a variety of gorgeous images in your final gallery to choose from.
To ensure we can style your session together, ahead of it we will make time to discuss your favourite colours and, on the day of the shoot, I will have a few setups ready for you to see when you arrive.

CUTENESS OVERLOAD: LET THE PHOTOSHOOT BEGIN!
Once your baby has been fed and is relaxed, we will start by getting them comfy and settled in a wrap.
This not only looks beautiful in photographs but it can help to soothe your baby to sleep. Being swaddled like this makes a baby feel safe and secure, and prevents them from waking themselves up with any sudden movements.
Along with wrapping, white noise creates a comfortable, womb-like environment that calms your baby and helps keep them settled.
Once your baby is wrapped, you will see me position them safely and securely into a prop and then… start snapping away!
NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT LANCASHIRE – PARENTS AND SIBLINGS
Is there anything more special than the bond between a mum, a dad and their baby?
Anything more precious?
That’s why my newborn sessions include parent and sibling images.
Yes, I know that you are probably thinking you’re not feeling up to having your photographs taken. There are still plenty of creative ways to create some precious memories for you – no need for forced smiles or uncomfortable poses!
An image of your baby’s tiny grip on your finger or both sets of hands cradling your little bundle are just as beautiful as a family portrait.
THE END… NOT QUITE!
And now… the best part of your session: seeing the final images!
Approximately 2 weeks after your session, I will welcome you back to the studio for your viewing and ordering appointment to show you your final gallery and a HD slideshow of your beautiful, edited images.
Here, we’ll also talk about products and packages to help you choose what works best for your family.
